Just peachy

Woah, has it really been 3 days since I have been on this thing? Yikes I must be busy! Not that you guys are checking everyday (which I hope you are:) but sorry!  I like this whole bloggin' thang.
Well finals are over and I can breathe easy until Monday!  And I also get to go with the boyfriend to visit his family in Michigan (Who's looking forward to a roadtrip and weekend together? Me! Me me me!).

Things are basically just peachy.

I don't care that peach was the color of choice for the early 90's bedroom sets and bathroom shell soap dishes...In pants and tops and head bands and bows, peach is delightful.

And do yourself a favor and make this:

Cornmeal Crepes with Peaches and Caramel

My mouth is watering.  This is my next to do.

INGREDIENTS

CRÊPES

  1. 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, 5 tablespoons melted
  2. 1 1/4 cups whole milk
  3. 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  4. 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons cornmeal
  5. 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  6. 2 large eggs, at room temperature

CARAMEL

  1. 8 tablespoons unsalted butter
  2. 1/4 cup honey
  3. 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  4. 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  5. Pinch of kosher salt
  6. 3 tablespoons heavy cream
  7. 1 tablespoon sherry vinegar
  8. 3 ripe peaches—halved, pitted and cut into 1/2-inch dice

DIRECTIONS

  1. MAKE THE CRêPES: In a small skillet, cook the 3 tablespoons of unmelted butter over moderate heat until golden brown and fragrant, about 4 minutes.
  2. In a blender, combine the milk with half of the flour and blend. Add the cornmeal, salt and the remaining flour and blend until smooth. With the machine on, add the eggs one at a time, then add the browned butter in a thin stream. Transfer the batter to a bowl, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  3. MEANWHILE, MAKE THE CARAMEL: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over moderate heat. Add the honey, sugars and salt, whisking to dissolve the sugars. Bring to a boil and cook without whisking for about 30 seconds, until the caramel bubbles vigorously. Remove the saucepan from the heat and whisk in the cream and vinegar. Strain the caramel and keep warm.
  4. Line a plate with wax paper. Heat an 8-inch nonstick crêpe pan or skillet. Lightly brush the pan with some of the 5 tablespoons of melted butter. Add 3 tablespoons of the batter and immediately swirl the pan to coat the bottom. Cook the crêpe over moderate heat until the edges are golden and the batter is set, about 30 seconds. Flip the crêpe over and cook until the bottom is lightly browned in spots, about 20 seconds. Transfer the crêpe to the prepared plate. Repeat with the remaining batter to make 12 crêpes, adding more melted butter as needed.
  5. Shortly before serving, preheat the oven to 400°. Arrange the crêpes on a work surface. Lightly brush both sides with the remaining melted butter. Fold the crêpes into quarters and arrange them on a baking sheet. Bake the crêpes until sizzling and lightly browned, about 4 minutes.
  6. Spoon the peaches into shallow bowls and cover them with 2 crêpes each. Drizzle the warm caramel sauce on top and serve right away.

City girls and country girls

"City girls are country girls with cuter outfits"

That's exactly how I like to think of myself!

This is a shout out to David Wittig who created these amazing photos!  The night of the shoot we hailed a cab, drove around the city looking for light and thoroughly enjoyed the city at night.  It was so fun and our driver was such a good sport!  He is incredibly talented and to my happiness, knows the best places to grab some grub and good drinks downtown.  Him and his wife are lovely people that I am happy to call friends.  Please check out their incredible work!

Fashion week street style

New York fashion week.  It may have come to a close, but the streets during fashion week are nothing like the streets during the rest of the 51 weeks.
Style on the streets, cuz really, how could you go without looking your best?
Love these looks.

(This girl is not in New York, but it is during a fashion week and I love this model and love her style!!!)

(Peach pants.  Can I get some? Oh and check out her BLOG!)

(Love a good peacoat on a man.  So classy.  The shoes are great too.  A little bit city, a little bit worn-in-country.  Boyfriend, I will get you these things for your birthday or just a day.)

(Love the great lengths in these photos.  And a faux leopard jacket that I am still kicking myself for not buying this season.  Ugh! Arg! Sometimes it's hard to be courageous in the suburbs...)

Remember when?

Remember when I posted THIS?

Well, here I am, surviving February, wearing the purple warp.

I'd tell you if I knew why I only look 2 feet tall in these photos, but I don't.  I mean, I am a whopping 5'5" (5'4" and and half, whatev).

Ummm...AWKWARD!

Just gorg.

Ever heard of Anthropologie?  Duh, of course you have!  This company is passionate about the one-of-a-kind moments they create, and each created moment is just beautiful.  Well to our luck, they just launched their wedding brand, BHLDN.

"There are no checkboxes. No fill-in-the-blanks. On the contrary, we think a moment should be as layered and dimensional as the woman standing within it."

I am so happy I haven't gotten married yet!  Woohoo!

An Outstanding and Obsucure Valentine's Weekend.

Happy Belated Valentine's Day, sweets!

My new obsession...silky, colorful, little jackets.  Perfect for spring and really anything. Dressed up and impressed this LBD quite nicely, dontcha think?

Dress, H&M; Jacket, F21; Tights, Hue; Shoes, Stewart Weitzman; Earrings, UrbanOutfitters; Clutch, Accessorize.

Obscure

- Saying my name over the phone.  Seriously, no one ever understands what I am saying.  They say, "Tara?," "Kayla?," and my favorite one that happened this Friday night, "Gaylor."  I am totally serious.  Maybe next time I think of ordering take-out or simply just calling to inquire about something, I'll be Katie or Sarah or Christie.  Those are easy, right?  Gaylor.  I can't get over how hysterical that is.

- The millions of bags that i seem to carry in and out of my car every day.  My book bag, purse, gym bag, lunch bag, old grocery bag with junk in it.  Woah, I feel claustrophobic even thinking about it.

- The aggressiveness I accumulate on the road.  I promise I am not that way in everyday life, but if you try to do something stupid on the road we are on...you may get a mouthful (I won't cuss, don't worry...that is too much for me).  "Arg, use your blinker dumb dumb! Choose a lane why dontcha! Ughhhhh!"
...I'm afraid I am revealing myself too much to you today...

- So you're going out for a special occasion.  You get in your dress, you do up your hair, you spritz a little perfume, you smooth some lip gloss on.  The door bell rings and that special someone walks into your place.  You are still upstairs putting your finishing touches on.  You walk down the stairs.  The special someone says, "You look amazing," "you are beautiful," "wow." You are incredibly embarrassed and throw your coat on without acknowledging those lovely compliments.  "Please don't look at me," you think......OK people, is this just me?  Who else hates this part of the night?  Do you feel like it's your senior prom too?  OK, phew.

Outstanding

- Venti 5 shot Americano with cream.  My perfect morning wake-up.

- Valentine's day dresses.  Love my LBD.

- This clutch that I totally won on Twitter.  Check out who gifted me with this lovely bag.

- The 40 to 50 degree weather we are going to experience this week.  I am giddy with thinking I can wear just a blazer and scarf and tights with open toed platforms.  Amaze!

-Christopher Wilocki photography.  He and I did a shoot this weekend and it was of course amazing!  Check him out!

Lacy Day

Happy Sunday, everyone!  I used to work every Sunday evening and since that nonsense has stopped, Sunday has become my favorite day of the week.  Who cares that work and school and whatever else is included in your daily grind starts tomorrow...it is Sunday and it is altogether glorious!  Sleep, eat, relax, go to church, sing some songs, watch a show, shine your shoes, go to target, pet your puppy, make a list, bake a cake.  Do whatever your pretty little heart desires, but if you do have to work, I totally understand.  I feel for you toots.

I love dresses.  I would wear them everyday if I could.  You should too...and if someone asks you, "why are you so dressed up" as I often get asked, just ignore it.  They obviously wouldn't understand.

A look into the future.

Like I said from the very beginning, I love fashion.  I love good style and the ways that people communicate by what they put on each morning.  It is so fun to see what people come up with and I myself have so much fun playing around in my closet.

I want to start doing some outfit posting...so original, right?  But seriously, I love people's outfit posts and I know I am not in the minority...so, why not, right?  Right?  What do you think?

As for now, I am limited with cameras and people to take them (or rather too embarrassed to ask my mama to take them, but I'll get there...maybe I will recruit my 10yro sister.  She would be hysterical and I could start her career as a fashion photographer.  Perf!).

So yes.  Here is a post!  What I am wearing today!

Jean button down, Anthropologie; Tank, L.A. Made; Pants, H&M; Boots, Minimarket

A not so sophisticated saturday, but I need something comfy cozy to clean up my junk.  And besides, I wandered over to The Daybook and saw a sweet little giveaway and thought my current outfit would look great if I swapped my fav black boots for a sweet new pair of rusty colored booties.  Don't you think they'd look cute?  So cute.

Okey dokes!  This has been way too long of an explanation.  Way better photos, way "funner" and cuter outfits and shorter prefaces to those outfits to come!  Let me know what you think of my idearrs.

There is something delicious...sompin' like Cupcakes

Cupcakes.

Nope, I haven't stepped into a warm, sweet, little, trendy cupcake shop (obviously...don't you see the crazy scattering of sprinkles and disney princess baking cups?) but instead spent Friday's snowy afternoon baking some sweet Valentine's Day goods with an even sweeter four year old.  I mean, is there anything better to do to keep warm?  Fill a house with delicious scents, lick your frosting covered fingers and listen to silly songs that a creative little girl makes up for you?  I think not.

Nom nom nom...
It's Saturday...let's bake!
